Indiana limestone, also known as Salem limestone is a common regional term for  a geological formation primarily quarried in south central Indiana, United States, between Bloomington and Bedford.

Bedford, Indiana, has geological layers of the highest quality quarried limestone in the United States, which was deposited over millions of years ago as marine fossils decomposed at the bottom of a shallow inland sea which covered most of the present-day Midwestern United States. Limestone is not hard like granite but very easy to cut in different shapes and forms, that’s why is very popular as a stone veneer.

Quarried stone comes in two colors: Buff and Gray
Buff: Varies in shades from a light cream to a brownish buff.
Gray: Appears in shades of silvery gray to bluish gray

Cities like New York, Washington DC., Baltimore, Chicago and others are using Indian limestone as construction material for their most famous buildings. National Cathedral, Biltmore Estate, Empire State Building, The Pentagon, Hotel Pennsylvania, Rockefeller Center, recently new Yankee Stadium  and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum feature Indiana limestone in their exteriors.
